There are very few artists in the field of house music and have played a role in popularizing this music for years, not falling by the wayside and not dreaming at all about the good work they do in singing and cooking music.

That is the reason why the Basadi in Music Awards (BIMA) competition team decided that this year they will honor the veteran of deep house and house music, Monique Bingham.

Monique has been involved in music for a very long time as she is about to complete 30 years in it, where she has played a key role in writing songs, singing and collaborating with respected artists including Black Coffee, Mobi Dixon and DJ Christos just to name a few.

Speaking about the decision to honor him, Monique, who was born in New York, America, but who grew up in South Africa where she is based in music, said that being honored with the International Recognition Award is a gift that she will cherish for the rest of her life.

“One of the reasons for that is that South Africa has a special place in my heart, and I have achieved a lot in this country with the help of my fans who have always shown me love, care and support,” he said.

“I am happy that I will be honored in a program that is only for women, and since I am an artist who works independently – I do not look down on things like this because they come from us who do everything ourselves,” she said.

The founder of BIMA, Hloni Modise-Matau, said that Monique’s art crossed borders, and extended to different generations, which made them realize that she deserves to be honored like this.

Some of Monique’s famous songs include: Deep In The Bottom make it with Black Coffee, Take Me To My Love, The Pap pretending to be Rulf Gum and us Poor People ayishaya no-Quention Harris.

Preparations are underway for the award ceremony for the BIMA winners, which will be held at the Joburg Theatre, Johannesburg on August 7 and 8. Tickets for the event are available at Webtickets for R300 to R1 000.
