A sergeant in the Eastern Cape police who is on trial for murder, has been suspended from duty.
38-year-old Sergeant Zamikhaya Mqolo is accused of murdering and burning Mr. Bude Phuke, the boyfriend of his girlfriend. This incident happened on 2 May 2026 at about 23:00 at B Komani’s tavern, Indwe.
It is reported that Mqolo had an argument with the deceased when they met at a tavern, and when the deceased was leaving in his car, the suspect chased him and shot him. The body of the deceased was found the next day burnt in the car, in the driver’s seat.
Although he was not released on bail of R3000, the procedure at his workplace is for the correction of crookedness according to the terms of regulation 10(3) of 2016.
Authorities say he is facing serious domestic charges including disorderly conduct and indecent exposure in a bar.
His murder case continues in court, but he is currently out on bail.
