The local police are investigating the shooting incident of Maj-Gen Feroz Khan on Sunday night. He was reportedly driving on Third Avenue, Houghton, when gunmen approached him in a white Mercedes Benz. It is believed that two shots were fired.
Major-General Feroz Khan is in a critical condition at a Johannesburg hospital. Khan was returning to his home near the scene of the incident after watching football. Paramedics rushed to the scene and Khan was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
The cause of the attack was not yet known, and the police have started an investigation. The South African Police Force says it “takes any attempt to intimidate, silence or attack any person involved in the judicial process very seriously and any attempt to interfere with the administration of justice or the work of the commission will be dealt with by the law.”
“Detectives will follow the evidence wherever it leads,” police said in a statement.
The shooting happened at a critical time as Khan was scheduled to appear before the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday. The commission is investigating allegations of criminality, political interference and corruption in South Africa’s criminal justice system, and Khan’s much-anticipated testimony has dragged on.
In May 2026, Khan was arrested along with the head of Hawks in Gauteng, Major-General Ebrahim Kadwa on charges related to precious metals. Khan joined the South African Police Force in September 2021 and quickly rose to a number of senior positions. His career has been surrounded by controversy in recent months.
