The unfortunate situation that has recently come to light where a local lady who is an advertiser, Sarah Langa, loses her belongings on a trip to Paris, has made many people panic and look for strategies that will help them keep their belongings safe when they travel.
According to this influencer, when he arrived at the hotel in Paris, he realized that his bag had been broken into and many of his belongings were missing.
“Imagine arriving at the hotel and finding that your luggage has been broken into at the airport and all your shoes and sunglasses have been stolen,” he said in an Instagram post.
He stated that the stolen goods are worth between R6 000 and R7 000 and some shoes, which he said he has never worn, are worth more than R100 000.
What happened to Sarah could happen to anyone, even if you took a flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town. That’s why you should take serious measures to keep your belongings safe when you travel.
Simple and quick actions to ensure that your property is safe
– Using a TSA approved lock, to lock the zippers of your bag. For added security, secure the lock by connecting brightly colored cable ties that will be easily visible if someone tries to break in.
– Wrapping your bags in plastic. Many airports (such as King Shaka International or O.R. Tambo) provide facilities to lock bags, which ensures that no one will be able to open them. This also helps to protect your bag from getting old because airport staff are not always patient when transporting bags.
– Add a GPS Tracker: Throw an Apple AirTag or similar GPS tracker inside your bag. This helps you keep track of where your bag is stored.
– Tag yourself internally and externally by attaching your name, phone number and e-mail (but never include your home address for security)
– Take pictures of your bag after it has been stamped or a video of the outside of your bag and its contents before you zip it up. If it’s lost or stolen, you have irrefutable proof that it’s yours when you file a claim with your insurance.
