This blitzbox team knows how to win when it matters.

The South Africans beat Fiji 14 – 12 in an action-packed quarter-final of the Bordeaux tournament to not only keep their cup dream alive, but they also did enough to successfully defend their World Championship title.

The Blitzbokke won last year’s World Championship in Los Angeles.

Sebastiaan Jobb scored two tries and Ricardo Duarttee was on target with both goal-kicking attempts in Saturday’s quarter-final against Fiji, but it was the Blitsbokke’s cannibal attitude that ultimately pulled the wagon through.

The South Africans did not back down to their physical opponents in the dying seconds of the showdown and they deservedly booked their place in the semi-final of the tournament.

Although they lost in the group stage against the very same Fiji and Great Britain, New Zealand’s success against Argentina paved the way to the knockout rounds.

In addition, the Argentines and Australia, the two teams closest to the Blitzboks in the standings, did not qualify for the semi-final round.

South Africa will play against France on Sunday at 13:14 in one of the semi-finals.

Blitzboks: Tries: Sebastiaan Jobb (2). Goals: Ricardo Duarttee (2).

Fiji: Tries: Viwa Naduvalo and Kavekini Tanivanuakula. Goal kick: Terio Veilawa.

Fiji 15 – 12 Blitzboks

Blitzbokke 26 – 5 Kenya

Great Britain 19 – 14 Blitzboks
