An unknown woman, believed to be in her 30s, was apparently bitten to death by dogs in Klerksdorp.

According to col. North-West police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh said the woman’s body was found early on Friday morning in Magaretha Prinsloo Street. The incident was reported to the police at around 05:45.

A man from a nearby residence came across the woman’s body on his way to work. He immediately informed the police. Emergency services pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

According to Myburgh, the woman suffered multiple wounds over her body consistent with dog bites.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear, as no eyewitnesses have come forward so far. The woman has also not yet been identified.

Eight dogs, of mixed breed, found at a nearby residence were removed from the premises by the SPCA and euthanized.

A coroner’s inquest has since been opened and the police’s investigation continues.

Anyone with information that could assist the police investigation or help identify the deceased is requested to contact col. JC Scholtz, commander of the Klerksdorp detective branch, can be contacted on 082 578 0187. Information can also be reported to the nearest police station, Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or through the MySAPS app.
