The police launched a manhunt following the killing of an 18-year-old boy who was allegedly attacked with a pin in Braamfischerville, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
Gauteng Education Commissioner Lebogang Maile has expressed his sorrow over the past incident and the death of an 18-year-old student studying Grade 10 at Mokgome Secondary School in Meadowlands.
According to the Department of Education in Gauteng, this student is suspected to have been beaten by a group of suspects who compete with him because he was accused of stealing and later died of his injuries at the Dobsonville Clinic.
This incident caused tension among the students, learning was disrupted in many schools, and another student was injured. Maile condemned the violence, expressed his condolences to the family, and said that the Ministry provides psychological counseling and psychological support. He also praised community members, parents, and law enforcement for helping prevent further violence. The police investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
Around 10:35, the police received a report that called the local clinic. When they arrived, they were directed by the medical staff to where the body of the deceased was kept.
