An order has been issued for people who still have SASSA cards to switch to new ones from Postbank immediately, before the deadline in August this year.

The process of changing the cards will start again on April 29, and those who have not changed are urged to do this before August 2026. Those who will pass August without changing them, are at risk of not getting their allowance. The card replacement program started in September 2024.

Mr. Thamsanqa Cele, Postbank CEO, said that this is the last program for people to switch to Postbank’s new cards.

He said those who have not changed, should hurry and do this immediately.

“We will not extend the period for changing cards and those who do not change them may not get paid. Those who have new cards do not need to change them. These new cards allow you to withdraw money for free three times and also receive one statement per month.”

He said the new cards protect customers from having their money stolen without their knowledge.

“The new cards will be available free of charge at major stores including Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer and SPAR. Those who change will need to bring their IDs or temporary ones,.” he says like this.

He stated that the remaining money on the old SASSA cards will be transferred to the new Postbank cards.

In the past, there was a lot of noise about the long queues at the places where the cards were changed. It was even necessary to increase the number of employees as large numbers of people came out to exchange cards.

Those seeking information on changing cards can call:120355#, using any mobile phone. .
