SOMETHING needs to be done to ensure that elderly people over 100 years of age receive support for their services.
This is the challenge thrown by the famous businessman who is the Chairman of Cebolethu Group, Dr Nomfundo Mcoyi, when he had a big event to hand over groceries and services to the elderly people of Bruntville, Mooi River, on Friday.
The event was held at the local hall and was attended by senior citizens from different villages.
On this day, Dr Mcoyi handed over wheelchairs to Mrs Yalile Buthelezi (101) and Mrs Bongekile Mzila (105) from the same place.
He said they felt it was important to give back to the local community by throwing in the towel to rescue elderly people from rural areas.
”I believe that we should not just watch people aged 100 and above struggling without basic services. There are elderly people who are over 100 years old and it is difficult for them to live simply because they lack resources that can make their lives better than before,” he said.
He said that is why they sat down and realized that they should give aid to these two people and give out groceries to more than 500 elderly people.
He said that they are not only a funeral company but they are doing everything they can to put their shoulder where they see that it is important for them to do that.
Mrs Buthelezi said she was very happy to be able to ride with the help of a wheelchair, she said it was not easy to live without it.
He said he hopes that now his life will get better now that he has received this help. ”I said I was dreaming, thank you very much for this help. Today, my dream has come true. I always wondered how I could help myself, but today God answered me,” he said with tears falling.
Mrs Bazondeni Hlela, who is Mrs Mzila’s daughter, said her mother’s life was difficult as she lived on her knees.
He said they had tried everything in their power to get him help but to no avail.
He said that it would be difficult if they had to take him to the clinic, he said that even taking him to a small house, this alone would be a very big job.
