There have been complaints about the increase in disputes affecting the monarchy, when the king bows down, a new king must take the throne. These disputes are said to put a bad image on the indigenous leadership as they are within the family. A call has been made to quickly identify a person who will take the throne in case the ruling king bows down to avoid these conflicts.

The call was made by the Deputy MEC in the Department of Governance and Indigenous Affairs, Mr. Zolile Burns-Ncamashe, during the presentation of the department’s budget in Parliament.

He also lamented that these disputes are undermining the dignity of the indigenous leadership.

“We are very concerned about the conflicts that exist when the king bows down and another one has to take the throne. That is why we urge that someone be chosen as soon as possible to take over the throne if the current king bows down so that there is no more conflict,” he said.

This problem of royal dispute has spread throughout the country as well as KwaZulu-Natal, it always appears when a new king has to come to the throne. Even the King of the Zulu, Misuzulu of Zwelithini, is still facing the same problem of being opposed in the seat as it has been in the courts.

The department’s minister, Velenkosini Hlabisa, said the 2026/2027 budget was R423.4 billion.

He said that money has been allocated to municipalities that have recently been affected by disasters to repair infrastructure.

“In the last financial year, the government provided 91 municipalities with R2.1 billion for the disaster. Municipalities will be provided with R200 million, while the provinces have been allocated R151 million,” said Hlabisa.

He also mentioned that since the next election date has been announced, they want it to be peaceful and free.

The MKP and EFF parties rejected this allocation saying that it does not help the people. It has been complained that a number of municipalities are wasting money, they are not able to properly manage money.

“There are very few municipalities out of the 257 that manage money properly. People are not being helped, corruption is rampant in municipalities,” said Ms. Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi, of the EFF.

Another thing that has emerged is that people do not receive necessities such as water, electricity and waste is not collected. The water problem facing the people of this country as they do not have access to clean water has also been highlighted. Those who fail to do their duty in municipalities are suggested to be taken seriously.
