The Department of Health in KwaZulu-Natal has revealed what it thinks are the causes of the alarming statistics of child and adolescent pregnancies recorded in the financial year 2025/26.

The data shows that 421 children aged 10 to 14 are pregnant.

In addition, 28,108 pregnancies were reported among 15- to 19-year-olds.

Previously, Childline KZN was quoted in IOL expressing concern that statistics point to problems of abuse, exploitation, poverty, education gaps, lack of support for young people, inequality, unsafe environment, and family deaths.

It is said that the main thing that drives young people to Obhale is wanting to experience the feeling of having sex. This is being spread like wildfire by social media and television programs.

Experts agree that parents are negligent in being aware of what their children are watching on television and mobile phones. They say that way, children end up looking at things they are not ready to see because of their age. It is said that children end up looking at things they don’t understand and want to experience for themselves what those things are like when they are made.

Sometimes it happens on television that there is something that is not good for children while they are watching it with their parents. Here it appears that some parents have not been able to control the situation properly. This point highlights parents who can’t talk to their children about things they shouldn’t go into. It is clear that it is a disease that is considered chronic among blacks not to talk to children about deep things including sex. It is not understood what brings water to the parents’ knees because their fear brings water into the house.

Another factor that is prioritized as a risk factor for teenage pregnancy is peer pressure. It is said that it is easy for young people of their age to put pressure on each other by doing things that are against justice.

Children’s conversations that can be live or on social media, can make the person who is a part of them end up getting into things that they don’t fully understand, such as having sex and ending up pregnant or pregnant. Another danger of peer pressure is drugs.

Experts in child rearing are still scratching their heads and are puzzled as to why children always choose to access the internet when they want information about sex. The most surprising thing for experts is that there is information that can save them, but young people choose to focus on or use what is not suitable for young people according to their age.

At the point of hunger, it is highlighted that girls end up having sex because they want to benefit from the good things they need. This includes mobile phones and money.

Here it ends up being a shame that some parents end up accepting that abomination and rely on the support of the children who sleep with sugar daddies as they earn money to take care of the needs of the families.

Another complication is alcohol, which leads to young people engaging in unsafe and unplanned sex. Here the result is getting diseases and pregnancy.

“Uvala” is said to be sexual violence among others that affects families and the carrying of children which is said to be a common practice in areas far away from big cities.
