They are now cutting through the Wild Coast – tired, sore and thoroughly tested by the sea, but determined to complete every kilometer for farmers.
The four Pretorians finally set out to sea at 05:00 on Friday after stormy conditions delayed their initial departure on Wednesday. Since then, they tackle the grueling trek along the country’s coastline with sustained perseverance.
The team – Carlo Smuts (30), Lourens Mahoney (42), Ruan Jordaan (32) and Henry Lubbe (53) – were on the Wildekus on Tuesday morning. The days so far have been long and physically exhausting. With sore hands and hours on the jet skis, however, their focus remains unwavering: To complete the ride in honor of South African farmers.
Their goal is to draw attention to the mental health of farmers, a crisis that they say receives too little attention. The trek of 2,786 km, which is undertaken over 16 days, requires them to cover an average of around 187 km per day and spend up to eight hours on the water, provided the weather cooperates.

The route takes them through challenging and often remote coastal areas, where they not only brave nature, but also have to deal with logistical pressure, fuel planning and physical exhaustion. Even the possibility of sharks is part of the risks they face along the way.
According to the team, these challenges reflect the daily reality of many farmers who have to deal with everything from droughts and diseases to financial pressure and uncertainty about the future every day.
When not on the jet skis, the four also plan to visit various coastal areas to meet local farmers and listen to their stories.
