IT IS STILL a mystery about the disappearance of guns and lots of ammunition in the Khahlamba Municipality.

They are still wondering where the guns and ammunition bought by the municipality have gone as they are not where they should be kept and no one is revealing how the ammunition was used if it worked.

There is still a search for the missing council gun and 400 bullets.

There is also a small gun that was bought by the municipality but was not officially registered.

The disappearance of firearms and ammunition was recalled by the internal auditors of the municipality.

While the disappearance of the firearms was still under investigation, an unknown firearm was also found in the council offices.

The municipality is in the process of opening a case as there are fears that the guns and ammunition that disappeared were used to commit crimes.

The Mayor of Khahlamba, Mr. Vikizitha Mlotshwa, said that an internal investigation found that 400 bullets had disappeared.

“The auditors of the council said that when they looked, they found that 400 bullets were bought but they are not where they should be stored. It does not appear that these bullets were used anywhere but they were never found when they were checked where they are stored.”

Mlotshwa said that of the number of missing bullets, 100 of them are from the gun which is also not found.

“We are surprised that the bullets of the gun that also disappeared.”

Mlotshwa said there is a large council gun whose whereabouts are unknown.

“There is a big gun that was bought by the council, it was registered and it appears in the list of guns in the police but it is not found.”

Mlotshwa said the municipality also bought eight pistols. He said the surprising thing was that only seven pistols were registered. He said – later – an eighth revolver was also found.

“The problem is now we don’t know where this bomb came from and what it was doing?”

Mlotshwa said that during the investigation, an unknown gun casing was found in the office of the suspended council.

“Nobody approves of this gun. It’s a forest of guns that we don’t know how many people have killed. The cameras are still being checked to see how this gun got to the council.”

Mlotshwa said they are in the process of opening a case.

“Because all these things raise questions, I have instructed the municipal manager and the director in charge of security to file a case with the police so that the council will not get into trouble. They actually went to the police station but were advised that the council’s legal advisor should write a report on the matter, and a case will be opened. We are still waiting for the report and they will go back to file a case.”

Mlotshwa said he wanted action to be taken against those involved.

“The person who bought the bullets is there and signed for them. The person who bought the guns is there and signed for them. They will have to explain.”

He emphasized that they are worried about the disappearance of guns and ammunition, especially since there is a problem of killing people in the area.

“It scares us as a council because many people died in Bergville, in the range, they were shot. Ten people were killed. We pray because if the reports of the tests of the guns and ammunition used in these cases can find that the council’s guns or ammunition were used, it would be bad.”
