The PRESIDENT of Cosatu, Ms. Zingiswa Losi, has warned her allies, the ANC and the SACP, not to use the Workers’ Day celebrations, to carry out the conflict and flagging that exists between these organizations.

He came out and said that the celebrations of this day tomorrow across the country, must shape the jaws of the ANC and the SACP. He reminded the parties that this workers’ day is not for the ANC or the SACP.

“This is Workers’ Day and these celebrations must be a forum for unity and the coming together of people who know each other. Workers must not be divided by the issue of conflict between the ANC and the SACP, in the matter of dual membership and the election,” he said yesterday while speaking in Limpopo, about the preparations for these celebrations.

It is a story in the middle of the struggle between the ANC and the SACP over the independence of the Communists. The ANC has decided that members will not campaign for tiki cigarettes, saying they will target alcoholics. On the other hand, the SACP is moving forward with the decision to contest the elections independently, without supporting the ANC.

Mrs. Losi said that the Cosatu meeting, made it clear that the unions that are part of this coalition, should be a forum for the conflict between the ANC and the SACP.

“We will not gain anything if the workers are disorganized. That is why we are in the process of discussing with the unions that left Cosatu, so that there can be reconciliation.”

He said the leaders of Cosatu will be the ones delivering the speech of the day at different celebrations.

“We must highlight things that are obstacles in the country, unemployment, the increase in petrol and other things. On May 1, Workers’ Day, the leaders of the cooperatives must talk about things that will free people and workers from poverty,” he said.

He pointed out that the workers in this country have achieved a lot, including the living wage of the National Minimum Wage as well as the allowance for the poor.

The national celebration is at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane, which is expected to be attended by President Cyril Ramaphosa or the Deputy President, Mr. Paul Mashatile. In KwaZulu-Natal, the Labor Day celebration is at the Currys Fountain Stadium, Durban.
