The Wynberg District Court has sentenced a 42-year-old man to four life terms for murdering four men in different incidents in the Western Cape in 2024.
Ayanda Dayi also received 15 years for brutal robbery, three different sentences of 15 years for possession of illegal firearms, four years for possession of illegal ammunition and ten years for attempted murder.
It is said that he is not fit to own a gun.
One of the most shocking incidents happened on 16 May 2024 in Delft, when three Sasko employees were ambushed on their way to deliver spaza on Symphony Way. Video footage of the attack, which went viral on social media at the time, shows the workers not resisting the suspects before the gunmen opened fire.
Two workers Xolani Gaji and Cebisile Mfundiso died while Aphiwe Nogaya survived after surgery. Earlier that year, on 24 January 2024 in Du Noon, Dayi and his accomplices shot and killed Eric Yaphi and Elvis Thembelani Cwethiso before hijacking their car.
Police investigations later linked Dayi to the murders through bullet and fingerprint evidence. Facial recognition technology also helped investigators link him to the crime.
