ONE of the main players of Orlando Pirates, Makhehleni Makhaula, is heard accepting that he will point the plane that will be carrying Bafana Bafana towards the World Cup that will be held in Mexico, Canada and the United States of America (USA) in June.

Makhaula, who will turn 37 years old in November, is one of the key midfielders in Pirates who has been doing wonders in Betway Premiership games since the start of the season.

Makhaula’s brilliance since he was returned to the jersey following his recovery from injury, has made his name appear every time when the winning players who are in form these days in the league are counted.

South African players in all the different leagues they play in, the most important thing for them these days is to catch the eye of the Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos.

This Belgian coach is famous for giving players a chance in Bafana because of what they are doing in their teams. Despite this, Broos is also known for believing in his teammates.

Since Broos took the job at Bafana in 2021, Makhaula has never been called up to the squad. This makes it clear that he will not be going to play in the World Cup even though Broos is known to have changed his mind about players including Themba Zwane who could not hear his story.

“No one knows what will happen tomorrow except for the Creator who is the one to whom we have placed our lives,” said Makhaula.

“If it happens, I will be happy like a child, but if it doesn’t happen, I won’t hate anyone because what will happen is what was created.

“There are a lot of young boys with amazing skills in different teams in Mzansi and I think they deserve to go with Bafana in the World Cup.

“This will not only help Bafana but South African football will also grow because it will open up opportunities for them to be seen by the biggest teams in the world.

“The way I plan to contribute is to make sure that these (young boys) who I am close to in Pirates, I try my best to sharpen them with the knowledge I have because of the experience.

“For those who play for other teams, I will strengthen my footing with the aim of helping them become better players which will complement Bafana.

“My story is clear. I’m running out of time. If you look at the age of the players that make up Bafana, it’s clear that my time is running out.”
