The death toll in the Western Cape bus accident has risen to 16.
The accident occurred at about 1:30 am near the Touws River when a bus carrying 78 passengers from Cape Town to Idutywa is said to have overturned after swerving to avoid a delivery vehicle. 16 people died.
The department noted that two other passengers were seriously injured. Paramedics attended the scene and 20 passengers were injured and taken to Worcester Hospital. 43 passengers refused treatment.
The cause of the accident is still being investigated by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) and the police.
