Oliver Sorin, who has a history of working with the best goalkeepers in world football, has filled the space of Kaizer Chiefs fans’ favorite, Ilyes Mzoughi, whose contract was not renewed until June 30.
Sorin from France, was announced by Chiefs yesterday as their new goalkeeper coach on a two-year contract.
This coach who has worked with Edouard Mendy who won the Uefa Champions League with Chelsea in England in 2021 and the famous Steve Mandanda in the French national team, will fill the place of Mzoughi who was not a favorite among Chiefs fans.
Since Mzoughi from Tunisia came to Chiefs with Nassredine Nabi’s team, he has built a reputation with the Kings fans by always being seen smiling and encouraging the players.
The Chiefs who recently hired coach Fernando da Cruz from France, have been strengthening their bench ever since they parted ways with Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef who coached them last season.
In this new Chiefs team, there is Mahmoud Abbas who is the deputy of Da Cruz and Dillon Sheppard has been promoted to the big scheme where he will be the second deputy full time.
In the Chiefs statement that Sorin announced on their social media pages yesterday, they confirmed that the goalkeeper coach’s contract has the condition of being extended for another year if both parties are happy with the cooperation.
“Sorin was a top level goalkeeper and has a UEFA A Goalkeeper Coach License,” said the statement.
“Over the years, Sorin has been instrumental in the development of world-renowned goalkeepers such as Edouard Mendy, Steve Mandanda and Dogan Almedar to name a few.
“He was born in France and is already in South Africa where he will work under Da Cruz.”
