A joint rescue operation led to the recovery of two bodies from a milk cooling tank on a farm at Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape.

According to the police in the Eastern Cape, its search and rescue unit launched the operation together with emergency service workers from Humansdorp on Wednesday.

During the operation, Const. Emilio George was fitted with a long rope and a mask before he was lowered into the confined space of the tank.

“The two men, employees of the milk farm, were tragically found upside down in the water,” says Capt. Marius McCarthy, police spokesman.

Rescue workers had to carefully bring the bodies through a narrow opening of the tank before the remains were handed over to paramedics.

The men, respectively 27 and 54 years old, were pronounced dead at the scene.

An inquest is being conducted.
