USING various types of tobacco in excess continues to be one of the conditions that lead to illness and even death, as proven by a report by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The WHO has announced that more than 8 million people die from diseases caused by smoking, including 1.3 million non-smokers – but who are affected by inhaling secondhand smoke.

It has also been revealed that there are millions of young people aged 13 to 15 who are already using different tobacco products which has caused great concern because it indicates that there is still a long way to go to solve this problem facing the whole world.

All this is just happening, the annual No Tobacco Awareness Month campaign is going on, the purpose of which is to preach the gospel for people to stop and avoid using different tobacco products because of their dangers.

The chief executive officer of the private health center Affinity Health, Mr. Murray Hewlett said that one of the concerns is the increase in the number of people using vaping products, which seem to be harmless when they are silently affecting people because of the chemicals in it that have a negative impact on the human mind.

“Smoking these products excessively is done by young people, which is why it is important to increase campaigns like this. Research by health experts indicates that many people who use these products start using them before they are 18 years old, which indicates that the gospel is needed for young people not to start early,” said Hewlett.

Affinity Health has released these tips that can help avoid this problem:

  1. Talking openly at an early age: Talking about smoking and its dangers should not be a difficult thing to do because it is clear that young people start getting into this habit when they are children, so getting used to talking to them about this can help prevent harm.
  2. Being a good example: Young people pay attention to how an adult behaves in front of them, so parents and adults should avoid smoking in front of children so as not to set a pattern with something wrong.
  3. Discussing the risks of this: Young people pay attention to something when they fully know how dangerous it is, so it is important that they are informed about the risks of this in order to understand them adequately and completely.
  4. Those who are aware of the money they waste on cigarettes: Cigarettes are not only harmful to the body, but also to the heart, so let young people know about all that.
  5. They are taught to resist pressure: That is because young people get into this mess because they are addicted to their peers, so advising them about that can enable them to refuse something inappropriate.
  6. Encourage them with good habits: Encourage children and young people to focus on sports, and focus on their different skills that will help them avoid getting bored.
  7. Seek medical help: If it appears that a young person has started smoking cigarettes or vaping, support them by seeking medical help so that they can stop these things early.
