Three people died and 14 were injured when a taxi and a car collided on the N2 between Heidelberg and Riversdale, in the Western Cape on Tuesday morning.

The N2 road between Swellendam and Heidelberg is currently closed. Motorists traveling in this area or planning to use this road are advised to use the Slangrivier to Heidelberg detour as an alternative route, and to expect delays.

Provincial traffic officer Maxine Bezuidenhout said the accident happened around 10am.

“We confirm that there was an accident between a taxi and a small car,” he said. “Unfortunately, three people died at the scene and 14 were injured.” Bezuidenhout said emergency services are still on the scene.
