A NUMBER of MKP members were rushed to hospital after throwing chairs at each other and throwing tear gas at each other during a meeting to elect the party’s leadership in Kwa Dukuza on Sunday.
A number of people were injured when the members who were complaining about being locked out entered the hall where the meeting was being held through the doors, and they were crushed.
Iof the country It has seen videos where members of the MKP are throwing chairs at each other, throwing insults at each other.
A source at the meeting said that some came and sprayed tear gas in the hall.
He said there was water on the ground when the parties fighting for control of the MKP in Dukuza were pushing each other.
“Even though I don’t know the number of injured people, there are a lot of people who were rushed to the hospital.”
The source said the noise was caused by a dispute between the people representing the branches.
“In some branches, there was a list with the names of people who would represent the branch, and there was a second list with different names of people who were supposed to represent one branch. The problem started when someone raised his hand and wanted to count the people who were inside the hall because it looked like they were outnumbered. Then there were those who entered by force. Some answered the phone and others entered through the doors.”
The source said that the windows of the hall where the meeting was held were destroyed.
“It is possible that we will be prosecuted because the hall belongs to the municipality, the municipality is managed by the ANC.”
Another source familiar with the matter said that the MKP is divided among the Dukuzas.
The source said there is a side called the Ballito mafia, and then there is a side that calls itself the leadership of the branches.
A party known as the Ballito mafia is accused of trying to shut out branch leaders from yesterday’s meeting.
The source said he wants the person who fired the tear gas and those who destroyed the hall to be counted.
“We want to uproot the tyranny and corruption in the MKP by their roots. We cannot live with tyrants who fail to follow the party’s goals. They must punish these people. I don’t care who they are.”
MKP KwaZulu-Natal producer, Mr. Willies Mchunu, said he had not heard about this matter.
Mchunu promised that he would investigate and comment properly.
Until it was time to publish, Mchunu had not returned the answer.
