VICTIMS of the 2022 floods, who were moved from a flat in South Beach, Durban, to a government center in Montclair, said they were satisfied with the new location they were brought to.

They said this yesterday, following the start of their transportation, they were brought to this center on Sunday.

One of the victims, Ms. Thandeka Sekhoto said that the place they are now in is bigger compared to the one where they have been living for more than three years.

“We see the social situation of this family as very good because the parents found enough space to live with their family. Where we came from, we were mixed together in one place, but here everyone has their own room. In the past, you would find Mkhize staying with Mhlongo in the same place. Now a person can live alone or with their children,” said Ms. Sekhoto.

He said they were told that they would stay in this area for a few months before being removed, and taken to subsidized houses where they would live forever in Cornubia.

He said that although they were worried about what they would do with their children attending Addington Primary School, government officials told them that it would be fixed as the schools were closed.

It is a country found that the various government agencies working together on the issue of those affected by the floods will ensure that this change of residence does not affect the education of the students.

It found that arrangements will be made for students to be transported by transport that will be arranged or found for nearby schools.

Another one who was affected by the floods, Ms. Abongile Ndabeni said she is from Zwelisha, Verulam. He revealed that they were also initially accommodated in the community hall before being taken to South Beach.

According to the Municipality of Thekwini, 137 rooms have been repaired in this area, which have been affected by the floods. According to them, there will be 600 rooms in this area when it is complete. It is said that this land, which was bought by the government from Transnet in July last year, will be a place that the government will use to temporarily house flood victims if their houses are destroyed due to natural disasters. It is said that they will be kept there while waiting for subsidized houses to be built in places like Cornubia.
