Old MEN, called sugardaddies and blessers, have taken us to primary schools located in Mshwathi Municipality.
Blessers are men who attract women with money and gifts to end up sleeping with them while sugardaddies are older men who date younger women.
Speaking at a press conference held at Tourwoodlea Lodge, Mgungundlovu, on Tuesday, the Mayor of Mgundlovu, Mr. Mandla Zondi, said that among the municipalities under Mgungundlovu, this practice is the best in Mgundlovu.
He said they first became aware of it when they saw young people getting pregnant with miscarriages and some suffering from sexually transmitted diseases.
“What shocked us the most was the scandal of the three 10-year-old girls who gave birth at the Appelsbosch hospital (in Zwathini).”
The mayor said that some of these girls not only become pregnant but also become infected with HIV. Apart from this disgrace, the mayor said that the cases of murder of people who love each other are getting worse in this municipality. He said that this scandal has stuck in the throats of the municipality so much that they thought it better to take action so that it finally disappears like the morning when it sees the sun. It said they have planned a walk, which they call the Big Walk in the Trustfeed area today, Thursday.
“This Big Walk will start from the Trustfeed Sports Fields at 9 am. Its main purpose is to rebuke the evil of pregnancy among girls in the community and to raise awareness about AIDS and gender violence. It will not be only people from Trustfeed who will be participating in the Big Walk but there will also be people from other places who will be brought by taxis that we have arranged for them.”
The mayor also complained about the small number of people in this municipality who registered to vote in the November 4 election. He said that the large number of people in Mshwathi did not register and that is why the money allocated to this municipality has decreased, which is causing development to be disrupted. It goes on to say that they are a small and rural municipality, which makes them live off of the government grant because there are few places where people pay for services such as waste removal and street lights. In the development plans presented on Tuesday, the mayor listed a recreation area created at Albert Falls, a state-of-the-art sports field, roads and a world-class auditorium.
