CONGRATULATIONS to the 11 players from the University of KwaZulu-Natal who have been selected for the Sharks Under-20 women’s team that will play in the national competition.

The national tournament will begin on Monday at the Alberton Rugby Club.

The KwaZulu-Natal team will play in the top division with Western Province, Border, Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Eastern Province, Boland and Free State.

In the second stage, Limpopo Blue Bulls, Griquas, South Western Districts, Mpumalanga, Valke and Griffons will compete.

The UKZN players who will play for the Sharks are Zandile Ngcobo, Nosipho Mkhize, Hlekane Baloyi, Asanda Mnyandu, Charmaine Mogashoa, Bokamoso Mokali, Tshepiso Maseme, Samkelisiwe Motha, Yamkela Moiloa, Zanele Hlongwane, and Akhona Gumede.

Congratulating these players, the Director of Corporate Relations, Normah Zondo, said she was proud that they were chosen to represent the province.

“We are very proud of these young female players for their success and the development of women’s rugby. Their appointment shows the development of UKZN as we aim to be among the best sports institutions in South Africa,” said Zondo.

“We are proud to be part of programs to improve women’s opportunities in rugby.”

Western Province will be defending the title in the top division as they beat the Blue Bulls 33-0 in the final of the competition last year.
