HE PROMISED that the results of the next few games will determine the decisions taken by one of the officials of Kaizer Chiefs, Kaizer Motaung Jr.
Kings are in trouble as they have lost four games in a row in different competitions.
They came out of the Caf Confederation Cup losing to Zamalek in the last group stage, they are in the bottom three of the Betway Premiership, which was won by Stellenbosch FC, Orlando Pirates and Richards Bay FC.
Speaking on the Marawa Sports Worldwide programme, Motaung Jr who is the Sporting Director for Chiefs, said that to bring the team back to the right path, he said that they will make changes if necessary.
“We have had deep discussions with the players, the coaches and ourselves as the team managers. We embarrassed ourselves on the day of the home game against Orlando Pirates. You should not be defeated by your biggest rivals, especially in that way. Even the team members have commented and we admit that we hit the mud,” said Motaung.
“The fans did everything, they came out in large numbers and arrived at the stadium on time, but we failed to please them. I’ve also smelled my armpits because we all contributed to the team being here.
“There is not much we can say except to correct the situation. The sad thing is that we were not able to soothe the wounds in the next game against Richards Bay. We have had other meetings because what is happening is completely unacceptable. We have lost four games in a row, important games.”
Motaung Jr said that they believe that they made the right decision by keeping deputy Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze when they parted ways with the former head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, in October last year.
“Coaches Khalil and Kaze, goalkeeper Illyes Mzoughi and Safi Majdi who are training the players, we chose to keep them because they were part of the programs we started when coach Nasreddine Nabi arrived. They know where the team is heading and why they signed the players they signed,” continued Motaung Jr.
“In December, when we had conceded six goals in 15 games, we were in contention for the league and we were still looking to progress to the Caf Confederation Cup. It looked like things were going well but unfortunately things got stuck in the last few weeks.
“We believe that it was a good decision at the time because we wanted the team not to go back, to continue with what we had built. At the moment we agree that the results are not acceptable and that will clarify the decisions we have to make.”
“What I can promise the fans is that we will make the right decisions at the right time. The most important thing right now is that we collect six points in the two games we will play against Durban City and Magesi FC before the international break.”
When asked about local coaches who have been linked with Makhosi, Pitso Mosimane and Benni McCaarthy, Motaung Jr did not want to comment too much.
“Those are people who have achieved amazing things in football and any team would be happy to be associated with them. However, I don’t think it would be a good idea to talk about other coaches when we have our own and we intend to fix the difficult situation we are facing,” he said.
