ALTHOUGH he is happy to be praised at home for the national team 12 months ago, the captain of the men’s T20 team, Aiden Markram, is more eager to win trophies.

Markram is one of the cricketers who received major awards at the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Awards, at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, on Thursday night.

Ukhale walked away with the award for the best player voted by his colleagues in the country for men, SA Men’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year.

Another player who went forward is the Proteas men’s bowler, Lungi Ngidi, who was nominated as T20I Player of the Year, SA Fans’ Player of the Year and Best Men’s Delivery of the Year.

“We did some good things as a team, but in my opinion there is a lot more I could have done. Sometimes when you play regularly, you quickly move on to the next one. So events like this remind you that things are not as bad as you thought,” said Markram.

“All the players who were nominated deserved to get medals but that is not what we prioritized. What we want most is to win titles. I hope that we will continue to work hard to get good results in the upcoming competitions.”

Wolvaardt almost collected everything for women as she took the SA Women’s Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, ODI Player of the Year and T20I Player of the Year awards.

Nonkululeko Mlaba received the award for Best Women’s Delivery of the Year, while young player Kayla Reyneke was named International Women’s Newcomer of the Year.
