THE campaign to encourage young people to vote in the upcoming local government elections is moving into another gear.

The Electoral Commission has come up with other ways to encourage young people to vote by opening a podcast as well as a program that will air on television, which will talk about the election. This came out yesterday when the commission presented the logo that will be used as the election is expected to be held between November this year and January next year.

The chairman of the commission, Mr Mosotho Moepya said they will launch a podcast next week where the election will be discussed.

“This podcast will start working on April 8, and it will be teaching about voting. There will be a program that will play on SABC 1, from May 1, 2026, to encourage young people to be part of the elections,” he said while speaking in Johannesburg.

He said that with these programs, they intend to end nonsense and untruths that affect the election. The chief executive officer of the commission, Mr. Sy Mamabolo, revealed that they plan to hire up to 70,000 workers, who will be working during the registration to vote.

“They will be busy during the weekend of registration to vote on June 20 and 21. We have made all the arrangements related to the weekend of registration to vote.”

Moepya said the presented logo aims to encourage young people to vote.

“Its purpose is as it says, “Stand up, express yourself and vote”. It means that the youth as well as the people of this country must turn up and vote. Those who are not registered to vote still have the opportunity to do this,” he said.

He said he has no doubt that the election will be free and peaceful. As this happens, we are still waiting for the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Indigenous Affairs, Mr. Velenkosini Hlabisa, to announce the date of the election. Power does not belong on election day because it belongs to local governments. The date of the national election is announced by the president of the country.
