Kaizer Chiefs may have been forced to change their mind about striker Tashreeqa Morris, who had planned to release him at the end of the season.

Morris scored a goal in his first game of the season which put Chiefs ahead when they faced Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership match at the weekend. Amakhosi ended up winning 2-0, confirming their place in the Caf Confederation Cup. Morris is one of the players whose contracts have not been renewed at Naturena. The kings have tried several times to destroy him but in the end it was not possible. At the beginning of the season he was wanted by Gavin Hunt when he was the coach of Durban City but he refused because he said he wanted to play for the team in Gauteng.

Although the Chiefs want to discard him, he may be lucky as he will play in the Caf Confederation Cup, a competition that requires many players. Morris is competing for the jersey with Flavio da Silva who rescued Amakhosi in difficult times, Ashley Du Preez, Khanyisa Mayo who scored a low goal while on loan and Etiosa Ighodaro who has not played for a long time due to injury.

Chiefs coach, Khalil Ben Youssef, praised Morris for coming in and scoring a goal in an important game.

“Morris is one of our players and he has been working hard in training. We were waiting for the right time to include him and I think this was the right time to include him in the scheme. We discussed with him the importance of this game. It shows that each player we call is ready to work for the team,” said Ben Youssef.

Chiefs have two games left before wrapping up the 2025/2026 Premiership season, with two games in Durban. On Saturday, they will face MaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium, and they will play at the same stadium with Chippa United on May 23. After that, the officials are expected to announce changes to the players and coaches.
