It SHOULD come time for the Caf Champions League and Caf Confederarion Cup qualifiers, the engine will have warmed up enough for the four teams sent by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for this competition that starts in the first week of September.
PSL’s decision to move the start of the new season of the Betway Premiership to the first weekend of August will give the teams that will represent South Africa in the Caf games enough opportunity to put things together to get to this competition which is already on fire.
League champions Orlando Pirates and second placed Mamelodi Sundowns will represent the PSL in the Champions League which is the title defended by this team from Chloorkop.
Kaizer Chiefs who finished third last season are returning to the Confederation Cup, they will play in the Confederation Cup where they will be alongside Durban City who entered the competition by winning the Nedbank Cup.
The Champions League and Confederation Cup qualifiers will be played on September 4 to 6 and 11 to 13.
The second stage (sorting) will start from October 16 to 18, and the group stage will start in the last week of November this year.
Apart from the earlier than usual start of the PSL season, it is also worth noting that the three teams that will represent this organization in Caf are planning its start in Europe.
Chiefs and Pirates are already in Spain. Sundowns, who should be in Austria, did not go following the death of their player, Jaydon Adams, at the weekend.
When the time comes for the first qualifying round of Caf, Pirates will have played in the league against Milford FC, AmaZulu FC, Chippa United, Sekhukhune United and Kruger United.
Sundowns will then face Marumo Gallants, Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu and Milford.
Chiefs, who will have played against Sundowns, will start with Kruger, Sekhukhune, Richards Bay and Siwelele FC before Caf.
City will start with Sekhukhune, Golden Arrows, Richards Bay FC and Kruger.
As all this happened, the Egyptian association wrote a letter to Caf asking the organization to consider the issue of increasing the number of teams in its competitions. This time Al Ahly is playing in the Confed and in the Champions League Egypt is represented by Zamalek SC and Pyramids FC.
