The stars of Orlando Pirates, Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis, who have been nominated for the PSL Footballer of the Season award, are on the verge of ending the six-season drought of not returning with an award in this division.
Only dreams today as the players, coaches, and referees who have competed in different leagues of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) will be announced.
The PSL Awards event, which will be held at 7 p.m., will be shown live on Supersport and SABC Sport.
In the 2018/2019 season, Thembinkosi Lorch, who was playing for Pirates at the time, was the one who ended up walking away with the PSL Footballer of the Season award. He followed in the footsteps of Teko Modise who won two consecutive seasons, in 2007/2008 and 2008/2009.
After the 2018/2019 season, Zimnyama players were returning empty-handed from these awards. Last season, Mofokeng cried on the floor when he was beaten by Keletso Makgalwa of Sekhukhune United and Lucas Ribeiro Costa of Mamelodi Sundowns who also cried.
This time, there is a high chance that the Zimnyama player will win this award which is voted on by the coaches of different teams in the Betway Premiership. Appollis and Mofokeng, who is now playing for Royal Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, will compete with Mamelodi Sundowns’ Teboho Mokoena.
These Pirates players played a major role in the success of Zimnyama last season winning three trophies, MTN8, Carling Knockout, and the Betway Premiership league title. .
