A rare event will happen in the art of poetry with the Close-Range Poetry event, where the audience will be given the opportunity to ask questions to each artist who will be performing on stage to explain in detail the context of their work.

This event, which will be held for the first time this year, will be held at Ndoni Fashion House Studio, Durban on Saturday June 27 from 1 pm. Viewing tickets cost R250 to R350 per person at Quicket.

The organizer of the event, Thando Fuze of Fuze Arts, who is also a writer and poet, said that his main aim with this event is to strengthen the relationship between artists and poetry lovers and to end confusion about the message of being beaten on stage.

“I have observed that most of the time, people who follow our poetic work end up just listening to what we say, and then they interpret it in their own way, but there is no opportunity for them to ask themselves what they do not understand and what confuses them.

“This time we will open up such an opportunity that when the artist has finished presenting his artistic or poetic work, he waits to hear how the audience has received it, and that they can ask questions and get answers to what they did not understand,” said Thando.

Continuing, he said that at this event he will not be performing alone, as he will be sharing the stage with two female artists, Phumzile Zondo and Lebo Mashile – which he explained is a very important feeling for him because he grew up inspired by his art.

“We hope that this idea will help to strengthen the relationship between artists and art fans, and we have deliberately made it so that there are not a lot of artists because we are doing it to first see how this program will be accepted, we hope that it will go well so that we can continue and grow it,” he said.
