The youngest of all the students who graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Ms. Nqobile Khoza, has revealed that recording that history has encouraged her to pursue education until she excels in science.
Ms Khoza (20) graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geological Sciences, which is a phase of life that she described as having made her happy and made her feel humbled and motivated to not stop at it – but to continue her education.
“I am very happy about it and it makes me feel very humble to my colleagues, so I am proud that I was able to make such a good record – and I see that it will encourage me to continue working hard in life,” he said.
Continuing, he said that what motivated him to do these studies is that he has a passion to know more about the world and everything in it, and how it works.
“I have always been interested in knowing how the world works, and everything that happens to it and how it affects the daily events that we have no control over.
“My love for this field grew from wanting to understand nature and its workings in a deep way, so I focused on geology because I want to understand more about rocks, creatures, products that are mined from the ground and the soil from which they come,” said Ms. Khoza.
He said that while he was doing this field, he was very fond of the subjects that shook his head and made him gain in-depth knowledge of the history of the creation of things that we see in the world including Structural Geology, Palaeontology, Geochemistry, Sedimentology and Geological Evolution of Southern Africa.
“Now I am already continuing with an honors degree in Geology, and my plans for the future are to continue to grow in the education of this field, as it is already in my plans that when I graduate with honors, I will continue with Master’s research that will focus on structural geology, geophysics and GIS application in geology,” he said.
Ms Khoza said she hopes that the knowledge she will have in education will help make a difference in the mining sector, and she encouraged those who come after her to pursue their dreams regardless of their age.
