Ms. Nokuthula Dlamini, who was in the headlines this week and touched many people after the spread of pictures and videos of her crying at her graduation, is looking to continue using her education to change the situation in her country.

Ms Dlamini (24), from Nhlazatshe and the only child of Ms Lindiwe Dlamini, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Honors in Sociology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) at a graduation ceremony this week.

After receiving his degree, he pleased and touched many people as he went straight to his mother, she kissed him and cried tears of joy – with the creatures and remembering the hardships he went through to reach this moment of ‘victory’.

At the graduation ceremony, he did not show much as it often happens with many students and academics who usually dress up in clothes when they receive the crown and the reward of hard work.

“I didn’t want to enslave my mother by looking for an expensive wedding dress because I know and completely understand how difficult the situation at home is. I then decided to wear my normal clothes because it was very important for me to be present at the honoring ceremony. I am also pushed by the understanding that a moment like this happens only once in a person’s life,” he said.

Continuing, he said that his feelings were mixed with joy and sadness because he remembered all the challenges he faced and overcame while studying – which helped him to reach the peak of his journey.

He said that what brought him sorrow and tears was the gratitude that filled his heart that he finally won, he was also happy that in this moment of happiness his mother was also there, who was going to be happy with him at a good and happy time in his life.

He thanked Dr. Siphamandla Sithelo who was one of his teachers who helped him a lot in his first year at the university and got him a place to live.

“I am grateful to everyone who has contacted me and helped me, I am also grateful for the promises of various help that will help improve the state of my life. I wish that what happened to me will encourage others who come after me to complete the good things they have started doing in life,” said Ms. Dlamini.
