The PRESIDENT of KwaZulu-Natal Athletics (KZNA), Steve Mkasi, has been removed from his position to face disciplinary action after a video that went viral on social media shows him fighting with a runner.
His deputy, Khura Buthelezi, has been appointed as acting while his disciplinary process continues.
In this video that has spread on Facebook and other social media platforms, it appears that there is more and more between Mkasi and the runner, who is Sphephelo Ndlovu, who is affiliated with AmaRavens Athletics Club.
According to this newspaper, the fight between Mkasi and Ndlovu took place in one of the streets, in Morningside, Durban, on Saturday evening.
It turns out that this dispute started with Mkasi calling the runner to express his complaint and writing on Facebook criticizing the leader whom he described as a “bully” in his leadership.
In the recorded phone conversation, Mkasi is heard arguing with Ndlovu, which ended with Mkasi asking Ndlovu to immediately tell him where he lives, so that he can show him who is “threatening the other” between them.
That’s where they met each other, on the street at 85 Avenue, Morningside, it was the bottom and the top.
It is believed that Ndlovu, then accused Mkasi of assaulting and assaulting him in his place.
After this incident, Mkasi wrote yesterday on his Facebook page, apologizing for what happened on Saturday.
“On Saturday July 11, I am faced with a statement that I do not agree with. I made a mistake by deciding to fight someone.
Although it seemed to me that I had the right reasons to do what I did, but when I carefully review what happened, I see that I should not have acted the way I did.
I apologize to all who may have been affected by what happened,” Mkasi wrote on his Facebook page.
After this incident, there was an uproar as some were demanding that Mkasi immediately resign from his position because of his act of bringing shame to the runners association he leads.
Last year, Mkasi returned for a second term as president of KZN Athletics, winning the election with the votes of Sello Mokoena, Mandla Mngomezulu, Chris White and Romeo Hulane.
