The end of the days of preparation means the beginning of the hard work of facing the biggest race of all for athletes like Bonmgusa Mthembu, who is a champion of the Comrades Marathon three times and has won gold 12 times, and Joseph Manyedi of Maxed Elite Running Club, Rustenburg, who received the gold medal of the Comrades five times and finished fourth in the Comrades Marathon 2025, are part of this race this year as well.
Every year, the Comrades Marathon attracts thousands of runners, fans and spectators to the province, bringing significant benefits to the tourism sector and showcasing KwaZulu-Natal’s warm winter weather, stunning scenery and renowned hospitality.
Beyond the race track, the event provides an opportunity to promote the province’s diverse tourism experience, and position KwaZulu-Natal as a place where sports, culture, arts and entertainment meet. As the whole world looks to the province this weekend, major sporting events such as the Comrades Marathon continue to play an important role in sustaining tourism, supporting local businesses and highlighting KwaZulu-Natal as one of the best destinations in South Africa.
