Ferran Torres scored the winner in extra time as Spain beat Argentina 1-0 to clinch the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday. Argentina’s defeat dashed Lionel Messi’s dreams of a triumphant farewell to football’s biggest league.

Barcelona striker Torres scored a superb goal in the 106th minute to give Spain a chance to breathe as they head into the finals.

The game was played in front of a crowd of 80,663 people, including the US president Donald Trump, who packed the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

After the game, the four outstanding players in the tournament were awarded.
