Four suspects wanted in connection with a series of violent crimes, including murder and attempted murder, were killed in a shootout with police officers.

According to col. Robert Netshiunda, KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, the suspects were shot dead in Bellair in Durban on Monday afternoon.

“Crime intelligence officers spotted the suspects in the area of ​​Bellair and responded to the information. The suspects disobeyed the officers’ commands to remain silent and a high-speed chase ensued that ended at a home the suspects were using as a hideout.”

A shootout between the suspects and police officers ensued at the home. “Four suspects were shot dead in the shooting. One suspect narrowly evaded arrest and the police are looking for him.”

Four firearms were found in the possession of the suspects and confiscated. No police officers were injured in the shooting.

Netshiunda said the suspects harassed the communities of Mbumbulu, KwaMakhutha, Ntuzuma and Folweni.

Apart from cases of murder and attempted murder, the suspects were also wanted in connection with several other serious crimes, including car and truck hijacking and business and home robberies.
