The DA submitted the names of five members of the National Assembly to the Speaker of Parliament, Thoko Didiza, to represent the party on the impeachment committee on the Phala Phala matter.
According to Bax Nodada, deputy chief whip of the DA in the National Assembly, the team consists of:
- George Michalakis, parliamentary leader
- Bax Nodada, adjunkhoofsweep
- Glynnis Breytenbach
- Answer Gold
- Nazley Sharif
The DA says Karabo Khakhau exposed the alleged irregularities at the sectoral education and training authority (Seta) last year, which ultimately led to the removal of Nobuhle Nkabane as minister of higher education.
According to the party, Nazley Sharif recently also led the push for accountability against Sisisi Tolashe, after which Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa removed her from his cabinet on Wednesday.

The DA says he has been clear all along about his position regarding the Phala Phala matter.
“Where there are findings of misconduct against the president, the DA will hold him accountable, as we have done with several members of his cabinet,” said Nodada.
He added that the party respects the rule of law and has a constitutional duty to hold the executive accountable “in a constructive manner and in the best interests of all South Africans”.
