DA REPRESENTATIVE in the mayoral race in Mngeni Municipality, Mr. Chris Pappas, has appealed to the people to give his party another chance in the upcoming local government elections so that they can continue to change the status of the council.
Pappas said that things came to this council in a mess but they were able to make a difference in the five years they were in charge.
He said this after being officially introduced as the DA’s representative in the mayoral race in Mngeni.
Pappas said the municipality will go back if people don’t vote for the DA.
“Let’s protect our council so that we can move forward with development. Let’s not divide the DA because that will benefit those who want to take our council back. Together let’s continue to vote for the DA.”
Pappas said Mngeni is a beacon of hope for the people of South Africa.
“The people of Mngeni became brave. Only 42 votes made us win the council. These votes are what made the Mngeni Municipality a beacon of hope in South Africa. The Mngeni Municipality gives hope to all the people of South Africa that municipalities can work.”
Pappas said that many people did not believe that the DA would be able to change the state of the council.
“We found a municipality that was dead. The financial situation was bad. People laughed at us and others expected us to fail. They said that a municipality run by a young mayor and a young Deputy Mayor will fail. They said that our municipality will fall apart.”
Pappas said they still have a lot of work to do.
“We would not be able to change everything in these five years. What we are saying is that we have done what we promised. We still have a lot to do. We will continue to do the work.”
Pappas said that they want to take over all the wards under the council so that they will be able to deliver the needs to all the people of Mngeni.
“We want to take all the wards managed by the ANC. We want people to see that DA councilors are working. ANC councilors should be careful because they will lose their jobs soon. We are growing a lot here in Mpophome. Who knew that we would ever have so many members here in Mpophome. In previous years, even a small tent was not full when we have events here. Look how full it is today.”
