THE GOALKEEPER who is the captain of Magesi FC, Elvis “Ma-Thousand” Chipezeze, feels that it is up to him and his teammates to fight to bring the team back to the Betway Premiership after being relegated last season.
Magesi is preparing to host the Motsepe Foundation Championship in the inaugural season of 2026/2027, following its relegation from the Premiership. It was played under the PSL Promotion Play-Offs in June.
In the conversation he had withOf this country In June after being axed from his own team, Chipezeze (36) has not yet made a decision about going down to the Motsepe Championship with this team, stating that if an opportunity arises to play in one of the Premiership teams, he will accept it.
Yesterday, he revealed that he has decided to go down to Dikwena tsa Meetse.
“I can assure you that there were teams in the Premiership who showed interest in signing me, but I decided to stay at Magesi, and go down to the Motsepe Championship to fight to get back to the Premiership.
Magesi has become like home to me, so I don’t regret the decision I made. Me and my other colleagues in the team have played together for four seasons,” said Chipezeze, who helped the team get promoted to the Premiership in the 2023/2024 season.
“Yes, things did not go according to our wishes last season in the Premiership as we wanted the team to stay in the top division and not be relegated, but things went wrong in the last game of the Play-Offs when we were beaten by Milford.
Now we have another challenge, which is to fight to return the team to the Premiership at the end of the first season.
We have put it on our shoulders to fight to bring it back to the Premiership. We know it won’t be easy, but most of the players we have know the Motsepe Championship and its challenges. And with our new coach, he better understands the division we will be playing in next season,” continued Chipezeze who led the team to the Carling Knockout title in the 2024/2025 season.
Dikwena tsa Meetse parted ways with coach, Allan Freese, after he was axed. It will be led by Kabelo Sibiya who took over coaching the team at the beginning of July, from Highbury FC.
Apart from Mncedi Vandala who joined AmaZulu F, Motsie Matima who joined Kruger United, and goalkeeper Ephraim Mothibedi who joined Highbury, this Limpopo team has retained many of its players that it played with in the Premiership last season.
