Sandile Ngobese (24), from Vumankala, Nquthu, who is a chef in the city of South Carolina, USA, ENCOURAGES young people not to be afraid to take opportunities from other countries.

Sandile recently posted a video of herself on TikTok, dressed in a traditional girt, holding a sword in the middle of the main street known as Times Square, in America, which attracted many.

He says that he started going to this country in 2023, in the middle of doing his culinary studies at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), and after five months he returned to finish his studies.

After that, he says that he decided to go to this country full time and stay there until he returned last month.

“I left home with a lot of doubts because I’m a child but I want to make decisions like these. I also got an opportunity that came up at home and they didn’t want me to try my luck because they thought a lot about people coming, especially from overseas. They said that I might be killed or sell drugs. But I continued until I left and made them happy to see me start working, because even this page on TikTok I opened for them so they could see that everything is going well,” said Sandile.

He revealed that what made him highlight the culture of the Zulu nation, is that in America there are people who know well about the African country and who say untrue things about it.

“I saw an opportunity and decided to use it, and not only did I cook, but I was also invited to different events to talk about the culture of this country, and to highlight the food of this country. This made me stand out and people worshiped me a lot. If you come from another country in America, they welcome you so that you feel comfortable. I also realized that I can feel free to dress the way I like,” he explained.

Since he just came back, he said that his contract is over but it can be renewed if he wants to.

At the moment, he said he still wants to stay at home as he has started his cooking business in the country and wants to see how it will go.
