ActionSA has lodged a complaint with the Public Protector calling for an independent investigation into serious allegations by suspended Mpumalanga Police Commissioner Daphney Semakaleng Manamela.
The party says the allegations, which include corruption, political interference and the protection of criminal elements within the South African Police Service (SAPS), raise serious concerns about the integrity of policing in the province.
Thoko Mashiane, ActionSA member of the Mpumalanga legislature, believes the allegations point to a potentially flawed and unreliable law enforcement environment that undermines public trust and the rule of law.
According to the complaint, the Public Protector must investigate possible maladministration, abuse of power and a failure to act within the SAPS, also at senior management level.
ActionSA further emphasized that whistleblowers who come forward during the investigation must be protected.
“The people of Mpumalanga deserve transparency, accountability and a police service that is free from corruption,” Mashiane said.
The party says it will use all available options to ensure that the truth comes to light.
