FINDING greener pastures for Relebohile Mofokeng in the Belgian Pro League has left the young players in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) motivated, namely Camren Dansin of Orlando Pirates and Mfundo Vilakazi who are not impressed by Kaizer Chiefs fans.
Mofokeng (21) was sold by Orlando Pirates to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise after his standout last season, where he helped the Soweto team end their 14-year drought for the league title.
According to a statement by the Pirates and the player’s father, Sechaba, on social media, Mofokeng went with Bafana Bafana to the World Cup after everything between these teams has been completed with a four-year contract with the condition of being extended by another if agreed.
Finding greener pastures for this player who was adored even by non-Pirates fans made almost the whole of South Africa happy.
Dansin grew up at the School of Excellence like Mofokeng and they played together again at Pirates. Chiefs’ Vilakazi is Mofokeng’s friend. These players spoke to the media about this player’s departure as they were at the U/23 team’s camp preparing for the 2028 Olympic qualifiers, in Los Angeles, California in the United States of America (USA).
“Mofokeng’s success is linked to the way he respects everyone since he is gifted with this kind of talent that doesn’t come around often,” said Dansin.
“It is also a reminder to me that putting respect first and working hard like Mofokeng can open the doors for me to fulfill my dream of playing for an overseas team.
“I really enjoyed the time I spent with him and his teachings. Our approach was almost the same as the places we played in the past.
“I wish him the best in Belgium,” said Dansin, who was selected as the winner of the Betway Premiership Goal of the Season.
Vilakazi did not differ from what Dansin said but he was focused on the fact that he has no doubts that Mofokeng will become a lover in USG.
“The departure of a young boy from Vaal to play for a big team like Orlando (Pirates) and run in the World Cup with Bafana Bafana shows that we are talking about an extraordinary talent.
“Go, boy, you will show them why we admired you so much in the PSL. I know it will not take you long to become a favorite,” said Vilakazi.
