Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala will return to the Special Commercial Court, in Pretoria, on Monday after the Magistrate rejected the agreement that was set for the sentence he deserves in the police tender fraud case.

The court rejected the State’s negotiated eight-year sentence, indicating that a 12-year sentence would be preferable.

Matlala must now decide whether to accept the harsh sentence. If he refuses, the plea deal can expire and the case can go to trial. As part of the plea deal, Matlala agreed to testify against several people including senior police officers.

On the other hand, Matlala is expected to testify at the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday.
