AN EXPERIENCE in jazz music, Madala Kunene has revealed that it still means a lot to entertain guests at various events in Durban even though the years have passed.

He is saying this as he is one of the jazz stars who will be performing at the eThekwini Jazz Jam event, which will be held at the Bean Bag, inBerea, on Sunday.

In this event organized by Phambili Media, in collaboration with Durban Tourism, the aim is to welcome different guests as the Hollywood Durban July weekend approaches.

Talking about being a part of this event, Madala said that even though she is old, she still wakes up when the event is aimed at doing something good.

“I am very old, but if the event is going to attract attention and be able to bring guests, I am very interested in it and I would like to go to it. I invite everyone to come and see where we come from with this music as I am also interested in telling the stories from where I started with it until now. Another thing I am happy about is that the organizers of events still see in me and hire me so that I don’t lack pennies to earn a living,” said Madala.

He said that in this event he invites everyone who wants to enjoy the cool music, as he and his colleagues will do something for the eyes.

At this event, Madala is expected to perform with artists including Lu Dlamini & Marius Botha, Mkhumbane Jazz Ensemble and Heels Over Head.

Mbewenhle Moloi, who organizes the event, said that holding events like this when there will be tourists makes them want to come back to Durban again and again because of the fun that is there.

“There will be chaos in Durban from this week until the end of the Durban July weekend, so we decided to hold this type of event to welcome the guests who have started to arrive to prepare for the big weekend in the city. We urge jazz lovers to get tickets early. We are grateful to the Department of Tourism in the Durban Municipality for continuing to support us in events of this type to promote artists in different fields of music that we want to host at that time,” he said.

He said tickets will be available for R150 at the venue where the event will be held.
