SMOOTHING THEMSELVES is the first step that should be taken by Kaizer Chiefs players so that this Naturena team will quickly come up with a strategy to get themselves out of the mud they are in.

This was said by Makhosi’s midfielder, Lebohang Maboe, to the media when the team prepared to face Durban City in the Betway Premiership match which will be held on Sunday at 3.30 pm, at FNB Stadium, Nasrec.

He spoke about the importance of ensuring that all the things they agreed on, since they have not been playing for a week, turn into success.

The player, who joined Chiefs from Mamelodi Sundowns at the beginning of the season, told the media that they do not need to be told as players that they had a hand in leading the now-defunct Chiefs to the Caf Confederation Cup, Nedbank Cup and the league title.

“We used the last week to face each other face to face, criticize each other and grow each other as players for our mistakes that led us to the hole we are in,” said Maboe.

“What we prioritized was to first accept that the team is in the mud because of the pressure put in by those who have been given the opportunity to be on the field.

“None of us do not understand how our game against Durban City gives us a good opportunity to start changing the situation.

“It forces us to respect Durban City because we are in this situation, there are games where we took it slow and ended up being disappointed,” said the player.

Although Chiefs are no longer in contention for the league title as Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have widened the points gap, Maboe still sees an opportunity to finish in a respectable position.

“It is obvious that we are lagging behind other teams, but this does not mean that we have to humble ourselves in the 12 games we still have to play this season.

“Everything starts with us, the players. If we unite in the way we promised each other in the previous meeting, I believe that we can wipe away the tears of our fans who we always owe to them for standing with us or doing for them,” said Maboe.
