THE battle to expel immigrants who have fled the country is intensifying due to the increase in marches as well as the pressure being put on by different groups including the Parliamentary committees in promoting this campaign.
This pressure is also caused by the fact that there is a deadline of June 30, 2026, for them to hit the grass that has fallen in this country. The pressure made President Cyril Ramaphosa announce the points of the government’s actions to deal with this problem.
Tomorrow, MKP is holding a march in Durban, to complain about corruption and the promotion of public services. The March and March, an organization that fights against criminals in the country, has confirmed that it will be part of this march. Almost every day in Gauteng, there are marches to express public displeasure with the progress of the repatriation program for those who are in the country illegally.
Ramaphosa warned people not to take the law into their own hands by stopping people and demanding to see documents. This work, he said, is for the security agencies only, and not for anyone else. He also warned people who will reward others and sow hatred against immigrants.
On the other hand, plans for other immigrants to return to their countries continue as about 600 Ghanaians have left.
Yesterday, iThe Border Management Authority (BMA), confirmed that 663 Ghanaians left over the weekend. It said 323 left on Saturday, being transported by a plane hired by the local government.
“On Sunday, 340 returned to Ghana on a plane chartered by the local government. Their return took place in collaboration with the country’s ambassador based in the country.”
Different groups have expressed their acceptance of the efforts to fight this problem, others say that it is no longer useful as the matter has been neglected for a long time despite the fact that people have always complained about illegal immigrants.
The leader of Rise Mzansi, Mr. Songezo Zibi, said he fears that there will be bloodshed from June 30, because of the immigrants. He said the government will continue to criticize the situation even though this issue has been raised for a long time.
The chairman of the committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs in Parliament, Mr. Mosa Chabane, ordered the Ministry to speed up the plans announced by Ramaphosa to combat this problem.
Some of them are to strengthen the borders with the investment of technology, the establishment of courts that will directly deal with the cases of the smugglers, fighting corruption at the borders and strengthening the laws affecting the entry and exit of people in the country.
“We welcome efforts to discuss with leaders from other countries and that there must be cooperation between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Labor to fight this problem. Employers who hire people who have cheated and pay them less are not punished.”
