According to the latest report, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a reliable means of finding information for Indians. Where a total of 60% Indians start with AI assistant for searching. At the same time, 89% of Indians living in cities are using it.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an essential part of people’s lives. We can say this because according to a new report by YouGov, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a trusted platform in the way Indians search for information online. Instead of replacing search engines, AI assistants are making them better. According to the report How AI is Changing Online Discovery in 2026, 60% of people in India now start their day with the help of some AI assistant to search for anything on the Internet. This shows the increasing need of this technology in everyday life. Overall, 89% of people searching online in urban areas of India use AI assistants in some way or the other to find information, making India one of the fastest adopters of AI assisted search.

This trend is being seen especially among young users. According to this report, 67% of Gen G and 65% of Millennials use AI assistants daily for at least one new search in their day. But, among older people this number is only 30%. However, the results show that AI has not replaced search engines.

Only 27% of AI users consider AI their primary source of online search, while 36% use it first after getting information from a search engine or other source, and 26% use it along with other sources of information.

  • Still, answers from AI are often not the last thing in the search process.
  • In general, about one-third (33%) of users click on links from AI assistants, while 19% compare that information with other websites before taking action.
  • At the same time, 28% of people say that they usually stop searching after getting answers from AI. This shows that AI has an increasing ability to directly meet people’s information needs.
  • Three-quarters (75%) of AI users in India say they use AI assistants more today than a year ago, and 68% expect their use to increase over the next 12 months.

  • At the same time, 43% of people use AI to create content summaries and the same number of people use it to compare products, services or options before making a decision.
