IT LOOKS like Thapelo Maseko’s association with Mamelodi Sundowns has come to an end according to his manager, Glyn Binkin, who has made it clear that the player will no longer play for the Chloorkop team next season.
Maseko has been left out of the Sundowns team which is in camp in Austria as it prepares for the new season. This indicates that his future in the Champions League is bleak.
Affected byOf this country yesterday, Binkin said there was no need for this player to go with Sundowns because he is not in their plans for next season.
“In fact, both sides had already agreed that after the World Cup, Sundowns would allow Maseko to continue trying his luck overseas.
Therefore, it would not make sense for the player to go with the team to make preparations for the next season when both parties know very well that he will not be part of the team next season,” said Binkin, who confirmed that Maseko still has a contract with Downs.
“What we are dealing with right now is to process requests from international teams. The aim is for him to find a team that will sign him on a full-time basis, not loan him out. If something satisfactory is put on the table, then we will sit down with Sundowns and find a way forward.”
Maseko, who joined Sundowns in the 2023/2024 season from Supersport United, struggled to find a scheme under coach Miguel Cardoso, who took over from Manqoba Mngqithi in the middle of the 2024/2025 season.
He ended up expressing his displeasure on social media for being rejected by his viewer in Chloorkop.
In the middle of last season, the striker was loaned to the Cyprus team, AEL Limassol, where he scored two goals in 13 games.
His good performance led to a call-up to the national team, Bafana Bafana, which played in the World Cup. He scored the key goal when Bafana beat South Korea 1-0 in the last match of the group stage in Group A.
